thanx mayank

Every reader his/her online access.

I think Dinabandhu Mandal statement is correct rather than Mr. Mayank

Dear Mayank!

What type of freedom?

I have read online an article entitled “Application of Ranganathan's Laws to the Web" by Alireza Noruzi. Author focused that since 1992, the 100th anniversary of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan's birth, several modern scholars of library science have attempted to update his five laws, but in 1992, James R. Rettig posited a Sixth Law, an extension of Ranganathan's laws. He conceived that Sixth Law " Every reader his freedom" as applicable only to the type of service (i.e., instruction or provision of information).

No Library can stand alone without resource sharing

I am not agree with you.

I think....

freedom can lead to users to - misplacing, tearing and stealing the books. ( It can be seen in most of colleges and universities libraries.)

Moreover freedom of reading books of any discipline is not a big issue in the present time because www provides a ample primary knowledge of any subjects or disciplines that a scholar generally want, not to be a part of that subject field.

so from my point of view the sixth law of library science should be

THE OPTIMAL USE OF ITs IN LIBRARY.

IT (information Technology) is todays need for library to disseminate the information, fast and fair in terms of quality of information and access the resources of library and information sciences and also to fulfill the Laws of Library Science.

-----------------------------------------------------------

I want to know why this need of 6th law ? Are the existing ones not sufficient ? Furthermore "Freedom of reading" is already covered by established laws of LIS.

please suggest me open source software useful for library.
