Dear Ms. Shynee,

Thanks for your post.

I have gone through all the replies and it appears that DDC is the most common and most used scheme of Classification. However, as I personally feel,Ā  Analytico-Synthetic schemes are always preferable as they always offer better scopes to prepare a befitting Call No. However, the 23rd. edition of DDC (published in 2011) provides ample scope to prepare call No. CC is comparatively stiff and thus least used among the libraries and DDC being the easiest or( I should better rephrase my statement!) User-friendly, it is the mostly used scheme of Classification.

However, you can do one thing. you can check the IITs. (just log into their webOPACs and search for some common book and see the call No). so that you can understand what they are using.. But above all, in case you are douing the classification all by yourself, ask yourself with which one YOU are most comfortable. and choose that one.

Sincerely,

Siddhartha S. Ray, Calcutta

Sincerely,Ā

Sir,

I used cc in arts and science college . DDC and UDC used in stand alone mca college. In EngineeringĀ  college i usedĀ  DDC only .Ā  Its comfortable only. Thanks for urĀ  Kind suggestions.Ā  I will try .Ā

with regards,

DDC

it will better to follow UDC

Thanks sir

shynee

as you knowĀ EngineeringĀ college comes under the category ofĀ specializedĀ category, therefore UDC will better but for obtaining ready made class number, you may be use DDC.

Thanks sir

shynee

Dear Friend,

Dewey Decimal Classification Scheme most use in all Engineering College, Universities, and College, because this Scheme is time to time is updated.

Current edition 23rdĀ of this scheme published in 2011.

Thanks sir

shynee

Dewey decimal classification is best classification. As per AICTE norms DDC Classification mainly used.

thanking you

Decision making would be easy if you know the opted classification system by IIT and other regional engineering colleges classification systems. Most of them are following DDC but for science subject especially if related to the life science UDC is more useful and because of that most of the rewound science libraries are following the same e.g. Indian National Science Academy.

The following things I feel you should necesssarily pay attention to.

Do not blindly follow or imitate the premier institutes.Ā  Your comfort level and understanding of the classificatory schemes is primarily essential.

Secondly it would be better to opt for a system which is regularly revised and hence provides ample scope for inclusion of new subjects.

DDC is beyond doubt better.Ā  UDC also provides for indepth classification. If you wish to go with UDC check properlyĀ before you opt for the revision of the related fascicules.
