Dear Friends,

College Librarians are treated as Non-Vactional Teaching Staff.

 What does it mean ?

Please explain it.

means there will be no summer, winter or autumn vacations as applicable to teachers

Means, there no vacations like teaching staff (Academic Staff) of the college....

In a private institute,  try to convince your management for vacation

teaching staff with clerical definition...........

You are right. What is the utility of such type of status?

ILA is still sleeping ................

our all the associations are not active of this problem i dont no why they arise this issue on national level .

I presume, there has been sort of typing error. ( and  an extremely dangerous typing error indeed!!)It should be NON VOCATIONAL teachers. Otherwise, what will the Librarians do when the Colleges remain closed? The WBCLA can get the clarification from UGC/DPI office/Court of Law. I understand that many clever College Librarians in West Bengal just escaped paying for the Court Case, the WBCLA has fought and ultimately own. With this GO, those clever people will slowly come forward to pay for the court case as their position is in risk!! The situation is rather funny for the bystanders!!

It is a fact that the Pay Scales,& Status etc of College Librarians is a rather debatable issue even among  the LIS fraternity. As I understand, even many Teachers in LIS Depts in Universities think otherwise!!

There is no denying that they are enjoying the advantages of UGC rules. Otherwise whether a Librarian in a Medical College does less work than his/her counterpart in General Degree College? or whether a Librarian in National Research Lab does less work? but their Pay Scales are comparatively much poorer than those of College Librarians. Admittedly, this is a gross violation of Same Work - Same Pay norm of Government.

ILA as an All India body needs to look after such issues as well.

However status and Pay Scales are not all. College Librarians know in their guts what sort of humiliation and mocking gestures they consume every day from teachers & principals; even the office peoples seldom leave any opportunity to mock at them.

It is a bare fact that in society, in every practical aspect, College Librarians are never seen/rated at par with College Teachers. Even guest Lecturers & contractual Teachers get more respect than those of Librarians. Many College Librarians after considerable years of service are switching over to University Department of LIS as Asst.Professors to avoid humiliation & gain respect and SOCIAL STATUS!!
