How to utilise the service of E-journals through Consortium by Scientist?

Give me the solutions.....that will help me in improving the usage of E-journals.

First we have to find the problem and then look for the possible and the best solution.

Dear Leela,

Please try the follwing steps:

1. Talk to the users

2. Find their problems

3. Provide orientation

4. Provide new information regarding e-resources

5. collect statistics and send to users

6. keep regular contact with the users through email

Thanks first of all...

the steps you are mentioning above i used all the steps..still the usage is not much impressing....

Is their any other way.....?

Yes I am agree wit Apurba that u conduct that orientation programs and explain the beauty of E-Journals because many user think that they will not find the required information there, so explain them first how to enter the query ok

sir i agree with your suggestion, bcz students or a layman don't know how to search a online resource, if we(Library professionals)  guide them, then the time will be saved, in the E-Journal  consortium user can search by Author, Title, Subject wise, Year, etc... Every Library professional should know these all things, then only he/she thought to user and provide Valuable, Relvent information to user

i am agree with this...but when we want to give them such useful information regarding searching through training they don't have time.......they usually don't attend these training.....

actually they think that they do not need any training as they are scientist.

try to collect an article that is not subscribed by u

Well the E-journals content can be made useful in the sense with users, where the all over campus wide LAN the access is available. The users are encouraged to the use the online access as the physical coming to the library is not required.

The very vital point in the E-Journals access is there to go for subject specific search.

The another advantage is that that they can share the articles online to their friends/fellow researchers in other institutes.

Just these points are to be highlighted.

regards

vrt

thank u Mr. Tiwari,

As they are scientist they are well aware of the advantages of e-journals but still they are not using them.

As we cannot subscribe all the databases, the journals they have they don't find informtion, they are looking, in them and they dont go to them again..

the e- journal usage can be dramatically increased by few tricks:-

1. Make it the Homepage of all Computers of Reader section.

2. Infrom by Notices --about the benefits and procedure to login , search the e- content------ to all users.

3. Tag a copy of 'brochure'.....with all the Computer Monitor using it . User will find it very useful .

4. Make a monthly analysis of the searches and hits  done by the users...........collect statistics ... and improve according to the conclusion.

thanks...

thanks u Mr.Chaturvedy

we are doing this now

looking for better response this time from users...

Dear Abhishk

How do i know searches and hits done by the users...........

because  a college or organisation subscribe, EX :- IEL multiuser, then user access the resource from multiple computers so how do i know the  searches and hits done bye the users
