In New UGC Plan and Pay Commission, Librarian Post is Converted to Non Teaching and Low Pay Scale

Dear Professional friends,

Today one senior lecturer of one college was telling that Librarian Post of Senior college is being converted into non-teaching post in new UGC plan and new pay commission and also they will not give librarian the Associate Professor grade of Rs. 37400 in future.

Is anybody know latest about this development.

Please inform and share this in the forum.

Is it really rumor or a serious matter?

Dear Sidurkar,

It may be possible as UGC already gave some indication regarding this- through Major and Minor Research Project, Faculty Development Programme and so on.

Now its upto us what we are going to do to stop this.

Dear LIS Professionals

Regarding this I have been discussed very long back for change of designation.  Since I am senior librarian in Government Aided College at Chennai/Tamil Nadu my suggestion is we have to organize one National Meeting through lis link subscribers and represent this matter to UGC as well as MHRD and Concerned State Government .  Without change of designation we can not do any thing in this regard.  Now this is the time to act very seriously  for finalizing this issue.  If any body is interested please come foroward

Its the right step...UGC can not beleagure the librarians...Now, being college librarians, I sign in the Teacher's attendance register, but suddenly if it is declared that I have become non-teaching in category, I would have to sign on some otehr attendance register...professionally this is extremely humiliating...Personally speaking, I fear that day...

Now we all the professional of library are given a attention to stop the injustice or even they think in future to do.Recently we got the status of Teaching in orissa govt.

Need political campaign against this movement. Influence political leaders using the personal contacts and act soon. Teachers community have jealousy towards librarians, that's the force behind the movement.

Dear Kumar,

Presently I am a teacher too but I will wholeheartedly and strongly will oppose any move that will influence this profession negatively. We are a team and we are in the same boat.

Sorry I meant, Non LIS teachers.

Library Associations such as ILA and other associations nothing doing for the welfare of library professionals rights.library Associations are responsible for this current position of library professionals. we would make a unique planning for face the same problems.do you know DSSSB,delhi has already down the grade pay of librarians. earlier librarian grade pay was 4600/- but now it is 4200/-.many eminent personalities in the field of library science only talking about the knowledge management and role of librarians and his or her duties. no body taking about down status of library professionals in the many conferences/ seminars.we do have the unity. we should raise our voice against such type of matter. I request all lis members to give your view/ suggestions about this serious matter.

Dear Sharma,

Kindly dont blame others. Let us ask ourselves, what we we have done for the profession-the profession on which our livelihood depends on. Associations consists of people like you and me. If we cannot do anything at individual level, what we can think of doing at the group level.

Yes, surely some hidden activities might be going in MHRD and UGC  to down grade library professionals. In this matter, I request to the senior library professional take appropriate steps save the profession.

Dear professionals recently MHRD took the decision to convert the B.Ed. degree one year to Two year and make some changes. In that changes while b.ed. degree was one that time librarian educational qualification is M.Lib. but now that qualification is only B.Lib. it means they are thinking about very serious for librarian post.

 Hi

I think, It may not effect the already those who are getting UGC salary based on their qualification but future library professionals will suffer a lot.
