Library & Information Science in IAS Examination ? a Request to Badan Barman Sir....

Hi all, There was a proposal last year whether to add our Library Science in the "Civil Services Examination Optional Subjects List". Do anybody know, whether there is any latest updation regards this ?

My reasons to support our LIS as an Optional Paper are ,

1. There are so many LIS graduates in India - compared with any other subjects.

2.There is a post called "Indian Information Service" (IIS) in the list of 26 posts available in Civil Services.

3.Almost all the Indian Universities provides LIS courses, and some colleges like Bishop Heber College, Trichy are providing LIS Courses.

4.Now a days, so many  deemed universities also started providing LIS courses.

5.Now we are a large community, comparing to other professional communities. Our unity is so strong comparing to other proffessional bodies.

6.My special thanks to LISLINKS for giving me wonderful opertunity to convey this message to a large number of our Professionals.

I request  Badan Barman Sir to take some  actions to convey this message to all members of this group.

If you have any more reasons to have LIS in IAS please add to this post.

Thanks & Regards

Your Friend

Library & Information Science must be the part of Civil Service Examination as a optional subject. So that LIS professionals also prepare for the same. We all have to support for Library & Information Science as a option subject of Civil Service Examination. It will be very useful & beneficial  for thousand of LIS profession in India.

@ HAR SINGH BISHT Thanks friend for your support, we should do something to convey our openions to government,

Mr. Jeba

I communicated this issue with ILA 7-8 months ago but there was no response from their side. ILA is not interested in the professional developement of the  community. This issue should be raised in the Parliament.

@Dr. N. K. PACHAURI, Thanks for your reply sir and thanks for communicating this issue with ILA, we should again convey to ILA and Home ministry through our professional associations.

The role professional organisation is very important and crucial for the professional development.

Library and Information science optional paper should be included in the IAS examination. It will create an opportunity to LIS professionals to take many decision in community information services and upgrading the information literacy among the rural people. And through that this profession will get new recognition in the public service commission cadre.

Vinay Kumar, Your understanding is correct, if the LIS professionals are given opportunity in decision making we can do many things in the area of Information Technology. There is a quote " Where there is a flow of Information is fast, the development automatically speeds up itself, its suitable for our India's development too"

Really this must be analysed by the fact that our subject is gaining the market ground by its multifaceted growth and the way it coincides with the other interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary subjects. But with regret, it can be said that the higher profiles in our field are not sincere about this and other related issues.

@Muzamil Mushtaq you are correct sir, we are the only reason for our present condition, if anthropology is an optional subject how our LIS subject can be avoided ?. Our top level professional bodies are not interested in this issue, we should force the LIS proffesional bodies through out the country to force our home ministry to consider this demand.

yes definitely.... it should be as a optional subject in civil services exam... after all we are managing the knowledge of nation..
