My opinion is such diploma course it really needed and it is feasible.
For the reasons take me as an example.

*During my Mlib learned about GSDL and WINISIS and during internship learned how to use other library management software (which used in that particular library) but none of open source software.

*Do you know there are some softwares (there in your list) I have never heard about it. (May be some LIS professionals or fresher like me also never heard about each and every Open source software).

*I have tried with Koha but couldn’t install.

*NewGenLib installed but unable to use it even don’t know how to customize it.

*My other friends going here and there to learn how to use these open source software, some of them attended workshop etc. etc.

So I think Post Graduate Diploma in Application of Open Source Software in Library (PGDAOSSL) is really feasible.
Hello Badan,

Dis type of course is really essential for lis profeesional as coming yrs will be covered by open source software to minimize the cost n finance of a library. So one shud hv complete knowledge about these.

Your this kind of course takes the lis professional to the height n u will become prominent lis professional bt having such kind of plans
Dear Mr. Burman
Your plan is good. But how far it will reach the librarians and how far the awarness regarding the course is important. Have you consulted the MHRD or UGC or AICTE or University Acedemics regarding the basic structure of the course. I think it will not be that easy. As far as my views are concerned it will be a good if you have a association with NIIT or some well reputated computer traning society. This is bcz they have good Infra. and also they hold many branches all over india. Even in small towns have this facility. Being an computer oriented courses infrastructure will play the vital role. But it must be affliated to some university in India. Then only the impotance for the course will be more. As far as Newgenlib part is concerned you can Consult . Dr. Harauv Former Information Scientist ICRISAT. Who is master brain behind the NEWGENLIB. Mr. Siddhartha the CEO of Newgenlib. These are the two people who can give you good info. regarding the NGL. But your Idea is excellent my dear friend. Hope you will be successfull in this regard.
cheers
raghu
