CALIBER-2025 "Library 2047: Democratizing Knowledge towards Viksit Bharat" at Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh

November 17, 2025 at 6pm to November 19, 2025 at 7pm
Friday

Hello, I am student of MLIS (IGNOU).
Would anyone help me with subject 'scientometrics & infometrics' notes or anything, useful to exam. I am unable to understand this subject because I was only student of this subject without any teacher provided.

And I have no idea how to prepare for my exam.

Please read Informetrics & Scientometrics module in e-PG Pathshala study material. They are good and easier to understand compared to IGNOU material.

Thanks,

Should they be enough for passing the exam??

Yes, if you go through the whole module well.

Yeah got it!! Thanks

No. Certainly inadequate. There are many resources available. Those who suggest references should refer only quality ones. Please do not mislead young students.

It would be helpful for everybody if you could please suggest those resources which you feel to be of help to students.

Speaking of the quality of e-PG Pathshala study material, it is a good quality material prepared by INFLIBNET Centre. Its Paper-10 covers Informetrics & Scientometrics containing a total of 19 modules from the basics of Librametry, Bibliometrics, Scientometrics, Informetrics and Webometrics to advanced concepts, which if referred along with IGNOU material is very much sufficient for an MLISc candidate to clear his/her exams, and there is nothing to mislead young students.

e-PG Pathshala study material is of much superior quality compared to other material available to students now-a-days.

Please use this forum for healthy discussions and knowledge sharing rather than criticisms and downgrading others.

Any healthy discussion should proceed in a proper direction. In this elite forum all references and referral should point out only standard sources. I strongly suggest the following few references which are highly qualitative and standard.

An Introduction to Bibliometrics: New Development and Trends
By Rafael Ball
Bibliometrics and Research Evaluation: Uses and Abuses
By Yves Gingras
Handbook of Bibliometric Indicators: Quantitative Tools for Studying and Evaluating Research
By Roberto Todeschini Alberto Baccini

Literature and Bibliometrics by Nicholas and Ritchie

Citation Indexing by Eugene Garfield (Even old, it is classic)

Its good that you have shared some good resources which the LIS students and professionals must read to gain advanced knowledge on the subject of Bibliometrics, Scientometrics, etc.

Me recommending e-PG Pathshala study material earlier was as per the requirement of the student who started this discussion, since her request to the forum members was to suggest some notes useful for exam as she was unable to comprehend the subject, and that she had no idea how to prepare for her exam.

For the ones who cannot comprehend the given study material, the books and resources containing material in easy to understand language and simple explanations from basics will help a lot. Asking them to read books written by foreign authors would not serve their purpose.

Hence for the students who need study material as per their course syllabus, the IGNOU study material and e-PG Pathshala study material are really good and sufficient, especially for students of open universities who cannot spend lot of time reading owing to their work life.

There is no denial that the contents of e-PG Pathshala and IGNOU are infact acting as a quick reference for many of their exam preparations and to clear other exams like UGC-NET and also for job interviews in libraries.

After all it’s the duty of LIS professionals to give the reader his/her book or information as per his/her caliber and level of comprehension, and as per their request. Only then it will fulfill their information need.

Thank you sir I am preparing my best

I agree with you Mr. Vivekanand. The materials you suggested should suffice.

Thank you..
