Dear Sir,

How we challenge the current environment where the value of the librarians is not so bright.

&

the comments by Sri Ray

that Image of the librarians & the Assistant Professors in now days.

Thank you Sri Mahapatra for addressing a very important issue. I am deeply moved by the comments of my co-professional friends and their concern. I personally touched by the comments by Sri Bhabananda Das.But it does not matter much whether you get official status or recognition. I personally feel that untill and unless we get social recognition, all these official status are of no value. Let me give an example. suppose you have a daughter to get married and you got two grooms both working in a clooege one is an Asst. Professor with an M.A or M.Sc and the other is a Librarian with Both M.A/M.Sc Plus M.Lib.Sc. and both are enjoying same UGC Scale. Now tell me from the deep core of your heart which of the grooms you prefer as a son-in-law? I am sure almost all will choose the one who is an Asst.Professor. Even a bride of our Library profession will also choose that groom only!! I therefore believe that until and unless we, the Library Professionals change our image, make it more respectable and acceptable to the society, the situation will remain the same.

Regards,

Siddhartha S. Ray
