CALIBER-2025 "Library 2047: Democratizing Knowledge towards Viksit Bharat" at Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh

November 17, 2025 at 6pm to November 19, 2025 at 7pm
Friday

The posts ending with the letter 'n'  like watchman, foreman, loadman, wireman, postman..(their qualifications  is 10th standard, 12th standard, ITI only).. etc are considered as low grade posts. But  Library professionals are well educated and their designation also ends with 'n' like librarian, assistant librarian, deputy librarian..etc. So there is no respect in working place and in the public also. But posts ending with the letter 'r' like  professor, teacher, doctor..etc are considered as higher grade posts and respected in the public. Since our library professionals are well educated, why our designation should not be changed as 'LIBRARIAR' instead of 'Librarian'.?

SAMVEG  sir really great answer

Being a Librarian no need to launch the Rocket

But to Launch the Rocket even Scientist need a  current updated informations that is done by us that is INFORMATION SCIENTIST

A scientist, in a broad sense, is one engaging in a systematic activity to acquire knowledge. In a more restricted sense, a scientist may refer to an individual who uses the scientific method.[1] The person may be an expert in one or more areas of science.[2] -- wikipedia

A person who is studying or has expert knowledge of one or more of the natural or physical sciences--- Oxford Dictionaries :-)

Scientist = Launching Rocket ???????????

are you studying any physical sciences or doing practicals in science lab in MLISc? Library field is not a science field. Any degree from arts subject is eligible for MLISc.

I studied Physical Science and Chemical Science when I was doing my degree. You did do your MPhil after MLISc, right? It is MLISc, not MLI(Arts).

Anyway, no one is using the term library scientist, I believe. It is either Scientist or Information Scientist.

Information scientists are those who deal with the science of information.

If all scientists are launching rockets, then....

The question ends with "N" ..... is seems like only a joke for time pass ..........but my dear professionals its a very serious matter. The designation of the post is a burning issue and the post librarian should be re-designated as school, college and university level as PGT (LIS), Asst. Professor (LIS) and Director (LIS) respectively at each level. The designation provides the social status to any one in our society. Therefore, Our professional association should raise this issue at National level and also represent the matter to 7th Pay Commission.

don't waste time to discuss irrelevant topics like this......

Dear Mr Sam

Even in 200000000050 also we never get respectful status..

dear librarians for change of designation we all have to work. it was discussed in ILA conferance also that granthpal is not a suitable designation. it reminds of vanapal, dwarpal etc. it was suitable during those time when books were preserved under lock and key.and knowledge was restricted to the people. but now scenario has been changed. so really we have to prove that we are not only the care taker(palankarta)  we are above that. we ouerselves are adjusted with the information technology also . then why not we expect the change in our designation . let us come together and chalk out some strategy to get changed ourselves.
